OVERVIEW

The Goal of this Program is to be a continuation course to the form:  Old Tai Chi Staff

Outside of this, the program is designed to review the earlier Tai Chi forms:  Tai Chi 1, Tai Chi Staff 1 (37 movement), Tai Chi 2, and Tai Chi 3, with a focus on review and then refinement.  Each class review and refine the above forms, depending on the class and time available after doing the Old Tai Chi Staff work.

Old Tai Chi Staff is a medium-paced Tai Chi form that utilizes a 5-foot long staff.  While Old Tai Chi Staff also uses a staff similar to the Tai Chi Staff form (37 movement) that was previously taught, it is a second-tier Tai Chi Staff form that starts to bridge the gap to more difficult staff weapon forms.  This part of the class will also include additional staff techniques beyond those learned with the Tai Chi Staff form (37 movement), or in PARTS 1-4 to this program.

Our Program will teach both the Old Tai Chi Staff form, as well as reviewing earlier forms, in each class period.

This program will also continue to expand on the staff techniques learned in the PART 4 program.

For the Old Tai Chi Staff component of the class, students will need a 5-foot Tai Chi staff prior to first day of class.

I recommend a Double-Tapered 1.25in White Wax Wood Staff.
Here is one such source, for about $35 (when not on sale):

  • Week 3:  Jul 1:                              OLD TAI CHI STAFF + TAI CHI REV                    (Monday)
  •
  • EXTENDED BREAK PERIOD
  •
  • Week 4:  Jul 19:                            OLD TAI CHI STAFF + TAI CHI REV                    (Friday)

  • Week 6:  Aug 5, 7, 9:                    OLD TAI CHI STAFF + TAI CHI REV                    (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
  • Week 7:  Aug 12:                          OLD TAI CHI STAFF + TAI CHI REV                    (Monday)

While the class itself is not recorded, there will be recordings of practice sets of Old Tai Chi Staff and course practices given out periodically, along with the recordings from PARTS 1-4 program, available for viewing up to Sept 30.

Most of the class time will be spent actually doing the Tai Chi practice, with periodic breaks to highlight key points or occasionally relevant theory from the Tai Chi classics.

Notes:

  • We will allow a short time after each session for questions and answers.
  •
  • Dependent on enrollment in this course, subsequent courses in Tai Chi, such as continued work with the material in this course, i.e. Old Tai Chi Staff and Tai Chi Form Review (of Tai Chi 1, Tai Chi Staff [37 movement], Tai Chi 2, Tai Chi 3), may be offered, as well as possible other forms.

In total, I look forward to having you join the "OLD Tai Chi Staff PART 5 + Tai Chi Form Review program ONLINE".

After reviewing Five Element Qigong from the course Healing Love 3 + Five Element Qigong, we start introducing how to make Healing Water and the beginning elements of Iron Shirt Qigong 2.  The Healing Water protocol is a healing technology in its own right for healing yourself or another person, and it also begins to set the stage for the Passing Energy Protocol learned in later coursework.  The Iron Shirt Qigong 2 material is continued work with the tendon system already begun with the Five Element Qigong.  We slowly develop both the Healing Water skills and Iron Shirt Qigong 2 skills as we continue the Healing Love work.  Having revitalized the glands and organs from the Five Element Qigong, we now work with aroused (warm) sexual energy cultivation methods for overall health and vitality.

This course continues the course material from Qigong Meditation Basics 3.

OVERVIEW

Our goal is renew and refresh the material from Qigong Meditation Basics 3 .  From there, we deepen physical body qigong methods for grounding with Iron Shirt Qigong 1  and we deepen the Awaken Healing Light methods with Wisdom Qigong.  All of these strengthen our physical body, our healing capacity, and open us up to a higher level of conscious awareness.

The theme of this class is:   Advanced Grounding and Healing Light Practices

After reviewing the basic methods of Qigong Meditation Basics 3  for awakening the healing light, we learn ways to rejuvenate the sense organs with Qi Self-Massage.  We explore ways to strengthen our fascia (connective tissue) with some wonderful rooted practices (Iron Shirt Qigong 1 ), that also help us get more deeply grounded.  We also take the Awaken Healing Light material to a higher-level, by exploring the brain rejuvenation practices of Wisdom Qigong.  All of these practices are expanded on further in the next course Qigong Meditation Basics 5 + Craniosacral Qigong + Intro Healing Love.

ABOUT QIGONG MEDITATION BASICS 4

We will learn three new fundamental meditations for emotional and spiritual well-being:

  1. Reverse Qi Ball Microcosmic Orbit:  alternate qi ball microcosmic orbit to sedate the body
  2. Classical Large Microcosmic Orbit:  grounds and balances upper/lower parts of the body
  3. Qi Ball Large Microcosmic Orbit:  breaks up blockages along the large microcosmic orbit with two different spins

In addition to the meditations, we will learn some supportive physical qigong:

  • Tao Yin Qigong (3rd set) learn ways to invigorate through basic stretching
  • Breathing Methods:  review of QMB3 breathing methods with awakening healing light, along with Wisdom Qigong
  • Wisdom Qigong:  introductory methods to rejuvenate the brain
  • Qi Self-Massage (Part 1)
  • Iron Shirt Qigong 1  (see below)

Along with the material in this section, we will review some of the meditations and qigong from Qigong Meditation Basics 3.

ABOUT IRON SHIRT QIGONG 1

Iron Shirt Qigong 1 is a system of standing meditation.

Specifically, it is a set of standing meditation postures designed to help you become more grounded and stable emotionally through your connection to the Earth. Through this deeper level of grounding, you find that over time your ability to remain detached from your emotions will also increase. In this way, you become more stable: rather than being controlled by your emotions, you become more able to detach from them and view them objectively as a witness. Consequently, Iron Shirt 1 becomes the necessary complement to any spiritual work for managing your emotions.

The Iron Shirt 1 postures themselves also serve to strengthen the physical body, which is a necessary tool to ward off the effects of aging. The old masters knew that they could not do their lengthy meditative and spiritual techniques without a strong body to sustain them, and they consequently looked to such methods.

Specifically, the Iron Shirt 1 postures serve to strengthen the body's core. In particular, connective tissue strengthens, blood circulation improves, and general body patterns of tension dissolve. Through the connection to the ground, healing energy from the Earth rises up into your body, and helps to promote both physical and emotional healing.

The focus in Iron Shirt 1 is on body alignment and structure. This not only enhances the grounding effect, but it serves to strengthen the physical body as well. Through this process, you develop an added awareness of your own internal life-force energy (or qi) and are able to supplement that with additional qi rising up into your body from the Earth. By strengthening your fascia (connective tissue), you will be better able to protect your internal organs and keep them healthy. This will in turn help to support the tendons, ligaments, joints, and bones, which are covered more extensively in the higher levels of Iron Shirt.

In total, the techniques taught in Iron Shirt 1 serve as a fundamental building block for a whole program of courses that are designed to build the physical body and continue the pathway of deeper levels of grounding. They form a necessary ingredient for higher levels of Iron Shirt, Tai Chi, and both martial and spiritual arts programs.

At the same time, the physical and emotional grounding that is provided, is a necessary prerequisite for continuing the meditative and spiritual pathway of Taoist meditation and alchemy. It only through becoming more deeply embodied that meditative practices become a whole-body energetic transformative process.

The material for the Iron Shirt 1 section will be:

  • Phoenix  (review from QMB3)
  • Iron Bridge  (review from QMB3)
  • Embracing the Tree  (review from QMB3)
